Girl Scouts Are the Experts on Girl Leadership

With more than 100 years of experience and expertise in the field, Girl Scouts brings a wealth of knowledge to programs that meet the unique needs and specific interests of girls, including the way they learn best. That’s why we believe and will continue our girl-led, girl-centered programming which empowers the future leaders of tomorrow.

Gearing Up for an “Altogether Awesome” Girl Scout Cookie Season

Mark your calendars, the Girl Scout Cookie Program starts January 1, 2018!
After much discussion and input from our volunteers, our board of directors have voted and approved an increase to the price of Girl Scout Cookies from $4.00 to $5.00 per package. Specialty cookies like Girl Scouts S’mores and Toffee-tastics will stay at $5.00 per package. This increase aligns us with most of our neighboring councils and ensures our ability to continue providing girls in New Hampshire and Vermont with high quality, engaging, and unique programming.

Troop proceeds will also increase from an average of .64 cents per package last year up to .90 cents per package in 2018, enabling girls to support and give back to their communities and fund new adventures and life-changing opportunities. From domestic and international trips to a week at Camp Farnsworth, our volunteers and girls know that Girl Scout Cookies help make it all possible!

Updated Volunteer Policies and Procedures

Council Policies and Procedures for Volunteers have been updated and effective October 1, 2017. All policies remain the same, and some significant procedural changes include:
• The background check renewal process will occur every 3 years instead of 5 years.
• New York City is no longer considered an extended trip as long as it is 2 nights or less.
• Smoking and use of electronic cigarettes is not allowed on Girl Scout properties.
• Volunteers should contact customercare@girlscoutsgwm.org for all inquiries where they will be directed to the appropriate staff person when necessary.

Troop Banking

Stay tuned for information and training on the new Volunteer Toolkit (VTK) Finance tab in early November. Troops will be able to enter income and expenses, indicate their troop’s status for the next year, attach items to their annual troop finance submission to council, and more. In the meantime, troops should continue to use the Annual Finance Report sheets available on our website to track their income and expenses.

TD Bank Accounts When opening a bank account at TD Bank, please note that it should be set up as a non-profit checking account. If your troop bank account is getting hit with bank fees, please contact the TD Branch where the account was opened and have them verify that the troop account is set up as a non-profit checking account. Still having trouble? Contact Customer Care.

Help Unleash Her Potential

A Girl Scout family in New Hampshire recently pledged $50,000 in a matching challenge to council! What does that mean? With your help, GSGWM can continue providing vital programming to over 10,000 girls throughout New Hampshire and Vermont – helping them flex their leadership muscles, discover the outdoors, and explore the world of STEM.

Matching Challenge Details
The family has pledged $50,000 toward GSGWM’s Unleashing Her Potential campaign, but only if we can raise $200,000 toward the campaign between September 1, 2017 and September 30, 2018! The first $100,000 of the $200,000 goal must be committed by December 29, 2017. When the first milestone is met, the family will make their first matching gift of $25,000.

Important News on Membership Fees

Starting in the 2018 Girl Scout membership year, which begins October 1, 2017, our annual national membership dues will increase to $25 for girls and adults. This is separate from our $15 council service fee. Girls may use their Cookie Dough to pay for or offset membership fees. The updated dues will be reflected during early-bird registration, which begins on April 1, 2017.

All membership dues go directly to Girl Scouts of the USA. With the extra funding, GSUSA will be able to sustain and develop exceptional leadership programs, implement digital innovations to enhance the girl and volunteer experience nationwide, maintain fundamental services for our 2.7 million members, and better engage our 59 million alumnae.
