Only a Few Weeks Left to Take Action

Girls only have a few more weeks to lead Take Action for Healthy Living Projects. Projects of all sizes are encouraged, and need to be completed by June 30. Girls will receive a special girl-designed patch for participating. Need help with funding? Consider applying for a Take Action Mini Grant from the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation.

We’re still looking for a few great staff to join us as we guide girls through a summer experience they’ll never forget. And did you know that children of staff can attend camp at a discounted rate? Join our summer camp team! We’re hiring for positions, including Unit Leaders, at our camps in New Hampshire and Vermont.

Last Call for Early Registration

There’s still time to get in on our Early Registration promotion – but hurry! Register your troop by June 30 and receive $2 toward the cost of your membership (to a maximum of $50) for every girl who registers. A minimum of 5 girls must register to qualify. If your troop qualifies, your troop account will be credited in mid-August. Girls will each receive a FREE Power of G.I.R.L. patch. It’s s’more fun together! Farnsworth Weekend will be September 8-10, 2017. Stay tuned for more fun details in the coming weeks. Registration will open by mid-July.

Join Our Summer Clubs

Your girls are going to LOVE our Summer Clubs! Girls can participate with their troops, or independently – all at their own pace.

Summer Science Club – Keep your girls connected and active by doing science experiments, crafts, cooking, and more as they read about women in science and earn their It’s Your Planet Journey. The adult fee grants troop leaders access to the 10-week program with weekly meeting activities to guide your troop. All of the planning is done for you in this online program.

Outdoor Artist Club – Encourage girls to discover the beauty of the outdoors for the first time or all over again. Girls will learn about nature, create art, and earn their Outdoor Artist Badge. The adult fee grants troop leaders access to the 10-week program with weekly meeting activities to guide your troop. All of the planning is done for you in this online program.

Boston Breakers – June 24, Cambridge, MA
Girl Scouts, friends, and family members are invited to attend a Boston Breakers women’s professional soccer game at Jordan Field, Harvard University. Girls will receive a special patch and have the chance to meet the players and take photos.

Jump-In is so much more than jumping rope! Play games, learn choreographed dance routines, try out yoga, make new friends, and of course, learn some fun new jump roping skills! Space is still available for the following sessions:

G.I.R.L. 2017 – October 5 – 8
For three days, girls will dominate Columbus, Ohio, and we want you to be a part of it! G.I.R.L. 2017 will draw more than 10,000 of the brightest, toughest, and most capable girls and women in the world for an event that only comes once every three years! GSGWM is offering individual girls and troops the opportunity to attend G.I.R.L. 2017 with a bus trip to Columbus, Ohio.

A Fabulous Day at Farnsworth

We were delighted to catch up with many of you at our Annual Celebration and Luncheon at Camp Farnsworth on May 6! From the unveiling of our new bunkhouse and newly renovated dining hall, to the numerous accomplishments of our volunteers, there was so much to celebrate this year. Of course, one of our favorite parts of the day was awarding Appreciation Pins, Honor Pins, and Thanks Badges, among other recognitions, to volunteers who’ve gone above and beyond in their service to our council. Congratulations to all of this year’s honorees, and thanks to ALL of our volunteers and supporters. We couldn’t do it without you!

Background Checks Are for ALL Volunteers

Will you need additional volunteers at your camporee or other spring/summer troop activities? Please remember that ALL Girl Scout volunteers MUST register as a member and undergo a background check. The background approval process can take 2 – 3 weeks, so please plan accordingly.

To register as a new volunteer:
• Visit www.girlscoutsgwm.org and click “Volunteer Today.” Complete the online form, select a troop, and pay your $15 membership fee.
• You’ll receive an email from Asurint, our background check provider, with a link to our online form, along with instructions. Complete the background check form* and you will receive an additional email with further instructions from GSGWM.
• Watch Girl Scouting 101 training video. Once GSGWM receives your approved background check, you’ll be ready to volunteer!

*NOTE: If you currently reside in, or have lived in New Hampshire and/or Rhode Island within the past seven years, you’ll have to complete a separate New Hampshire and/or Rhode Island background check form(s). GSGWM will email you an attachment for either or both of these forms. Please print and notarize the form(s), and send to our Bedford office for processing.

Upcoming Activities

Laura Wilder Weekend – June 2 – 4, Camp Kettleford
This weekend will include new pioneer activities as well as some old favorites! Girls will have the opportunity to create a pieced quilt square, embroider or cross-stitch a handkerchief, and learn more complex cooking techniques. Troops will camp in Adirondack shelters, bring their own food, and make their own meals.

Program Aide is your opportunity to share your interests and excitement with younger Girl Scouts. This training is a prerequisite to becoming a program aide at summer camp or Laura Wilder Weekend, and to becoming a Jump-In coach.

Get ready for the total solar eclipse in August by joining us in June to create pinhole cameras and so much more.

Grab your sneakers and try six different types of jumping, including long rope, double Dutch, and more! You’ll also have time to dance, play games, meet new friends, and have lots of fun!

Looking for a summer job? Applicants aged 18 and older are encouraged to apply for Jump-In staff positions in the Burlington, VT region. Staff will be expected to work the entire six-week program, which begins June 24 and runs Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3:30 pm. See our website for more information on the Jump-In program. Take Action for Healthy Living with Girl Scouts of the Green and White MountainsThis year’s Council Take Action Project will involve girls, troops, and communities in developing healthy living-themed Take Action Projects during the months of April, May, and June. We're celebrating the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts selling cookies. Join us for Cookie Troop 100. 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the first known sale of cookies by Girl Scouts. Your troop can join the nationwide celebration by participating in Girl Scouts of the USA’s Cookie Troop 100! Troops can participate through April 30.

One lucky troop from EVERY council across the nation will win $100 each to put toward their awesome cookie Take Action or service projects. One VERY lucky troop will win $3,000 to super power their project!

Early Registration Begins Soon!
Register today and believe in the power of G.I.R.L. with the Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains. Registration for the 2017-2018 membership year begins April 1. Register before June 30 and receive a free patch! As a troop leader, you can register all your returning girls and adults by logging into your MYGS tab at girlscoutsgwm.org, choosing the Member Profile tab, and following the prompts. This also allows the girls to use funds they have earned as a troop to be used to pay for their membership! Remember, our annual national membership dues will increase to $25 for girls and adults, which is separate from our $15 council service fee. Girls may use their Cookie Dough to pay for or offset membership fees.

Keep an eye out for more details coming soon about special events in May and/or June for girls who have registered early for the 2017-2018 year. There will be dancing, crafts, games, and more!

Background Check

Is your background check set to expire on March 31, 2017? If yes, you will be prompted to renew your background check when you renew your membership. Once the membership fee is paid, you will be sent an e-mail from our trusted vendor, Asurint. This e-mail will contain a link to complete an online portion for the background check. If you have lived or worked in New Hampshire anytime within the past 7 years or if you currently live or work in New Hampshire, you will also need to complete a paper form required by the state. You will be sent this form via e-mail once you complete the online Asurint link. Print and complete the form, have it notarized, and send it to the Girl Scout Bedford office for processing. Not sure if your background check expires this year or have other questions? Please contact Customer Care at customercare@girlscoutsgwm.org.

Mountain Top Shop and Office Hours on March 14

Please note that the Williston and Bedford Mountain Top Shops will be closed on Tuesday, March 14, for our all-staff meeting. The stores will re-open on Wednesday, March 15.

The Williston office will be closed all day Tuesday, March 14, and the Bedford office will be closed from 10 am – 2 pm and open from 2 – 5 pm.

Leaders, now is the time to review and update your troop description, meeting day, time and location, and girl and volunteer spots available in the Opportunity Catalog. Contact the Community Opportunity Manager or the Volunteer Support Coordinator in your community or our Customer Care team at customercare@girlscoutsgwm.org to review and update. Our council team will be reaching out to all troop leaders over the next few weeks to be sure that your Opportunity Catalog listing is ready for Early Registration.

From February 13 through March 6, you can vote each week to design a new program activity which will then be offered in our Program Guide, available in May. Important News on Membership Fees

Starting in the 2018 Girl Scout membership year, which begins October 1, 2017, our annual national membership dues will increase to $25 for girls and adults. This is separate from our $15 council service fee. Girls may use their Cookie Dough to pay for or offset membership fees. The updated dues will be reflected during early-bird registration, which begins on April 1, 2017.

All membership dues go directly to Girl Scouts of the USA. With the extra funding, GSUSA will be able to sustain and develop exceptional leadership programs, implement digital innovations to enhance the girl and volunteer experience nationwide, maintain fundamental services for our 2.7 million members, and better engage our 59 million alumnae.

Two Ways to Experience G.I.R.L. 2017!

Chaperone the Council-sponsored Bus Trip
Girl Scout Cadettes through Ambassadors (Grades 6 – 12) will have the opportunity to attend G.I.R.L. 2017 in Columbus, Ohio via a council–sponsored bus trip, and we’re currently looking for adult volunteers to chaperone!

Volunteers will need to be available from October 4 – 9, 2017; be willing to attend training sessions in advance; be at least 25 years old; be current on First Aid and CPR training; be willing to ride the bus with the girls, share a room with other chaperones, be on call throughout the duration of the trip; communicate effectively with staff and guardians before and during the trip; and be able to handle money and maintain budget documents. Parents or guardians of girls attending the Ohio trip aren’t eligible to be Ohio chaperones. Apply by January 31, 2017.

The 2017 ToGetHerThere Essay Contest is officially underway. All girls who submit an essay will receive a special ToGetHerThere patch! Winning essayists will receive a $50 GSGWM gift card and an invitation to our ToGetHerThere Luncheon. One winning essay will be chosen from the following Girl Scout Levels: Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador.

Entries are due by March 31, 2017, and can be emailed to marketing@girlscoutsgwm.org with the subject line “TGHT Essay Contest – Girl Name, Girl Level.” Contest is open to all registered Girl Scouts in New Hampshire and Vermont.

Help Wanted

Looking for a job that matters? Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains is currently seeking a part-time Program Administrator/After School Program to oversee programs in Nashua and Manchester, NH. Programs generally take place on weekdays from 3 to 5:30 pm. Candidates should enjoy working with children and adults, be willing to undergo background screening, demonstrate excellent communication skills, exercise sound judgment, and have the desire to make a lasting difference in the lives of girls.

The deadline to invite a friend to join you in making an impact on girls’ lives has been extended to January 31!

You’re their biggest fan, their guiding star, and their hero, and we need more amazing mentors just like you.

December Office and Store Hours Update

Starting immediately, the Williston office hours are as follows:
Monday, Wednesday and Friday 11 am – 4 pm: other times available by appointment only. Please contact Customer Care  or 888.474.9686 to schedule an appointment.

Williston store is currently CLOSED, except for the following hours:
December 10 – 1 pm to 5 pm
December 21 – 10:30 am to 5 pm
December 22 – 10 am to 7 pm

Bedford store* is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm. Extended holiday shopping hours will be offered on the following dates:
December 10 – 1 pm to 5 pm
December 22 – 8:30 am to 7 pm

*The store will be closed for our All-Staff Meeting on Tuesday, December 13; and for Holiday Break from December 26 to 30.

Fall Product Reminders

Fall Product Booth Order Forms—Planning a Fall Product booth sale? Fall Product Booth Order Forms are due to council by this Friday, October 14. Booth Sale product will be delivered to our Bedford/Williston offices and Camp Farnworth on November 4–in time for troops to sell on November 8 at Presidential election sites!

Join us For Halloween Fun!

halloweenGirl Scouts and their families are invited to dress up in their favorite costumes and join us for Halloween fun on Thursday, October 27 from 4 to 6 pm at our Bedford and Williston offices, and Camp Seawood from 4 to 7 pm. All Girl Scouts will receive a fun patch. Our retail stores will remain open during this time; don’t forget to bring your Cookie Dough! Attendees are encouraged to bring a canned good or other non-perishable items for local food pantries. Registration is required. Email marketing@girlscoutsgwm.org with name and location to register.

Green Saturday-Join us in our Bedford and Williston offices on Saturday, November 19, from 10 am to 2 pm for extended shopping hours, store specials, crafts, and holiday fun for the entire family! All attending Girl Scouts will receive a FREE, limited-edition Green Saturday patch!

Cookie Rallies-Join us January 7, from 2 to 5 pm in Vermont at The Champlain Valley Exposition or Saturday, January 14, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm in New Hampshire at the SNHU Arena (formerly Verizon Wireless Arena), followed by a Monarchs game at 6 pm. Each event is unique and jam-packed with exciting, hands-on activities to help you make your Girl Scout Cookie Sale a fabulous success. Choose one or both locations! Online registration for both events will be open by the end of the month.

The capital city was once the center of an empire, and today Britain’s age-old traditions come at you from many angles—from the stage of a West End theater, to a plate of fish and chips, to the ringing chimes of Big Ben. For girls in grades 8 through 12. Would you like to visit Oahu, home of Pearl Harbor, and try your hand at surfing? Hike Diamond Head, snorkel at Hanauma Bay, participate in a luau, and immerse yourself in Hawaiian culture. Applications will be accepted until the program is full.

Girls Rock the Capitol Legislative Internship Program

High School girls are invited to spend the 2016/2017 school year gaining an inside look at what state government is all about, working side-by-side with women legislators on issues that will influence their state’s future.

Applications and references for this exciting program are due October 31.
