Girl Scouts and Girl Guides from over 150 countries around the world commemorate World Thinking Day, a celebration of girls that has taken place every February 22 since 1926. Girl Scouts and their families are getting ready to experience Everything Exciting for Girls at the area’s only girl-centered expo! Join us for a day filled with over 100 family-oriented activities, interactive exhibitors, fun workshops, live stage shows, raffles and more! Celebrate Girl Scout Week March 11-17, including Girl Scouts Birthday (also known as National Girl Scout Day) on March 12, commemorating the day in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low officially registered the organization’s first 18 girl members in Savannah, Georgia. The Original Harlem Globetrotters are on the road for their action packed tour! This star-studded roster will have fans on the edge of their seats to witness the ball-handling wizardry, basketball artistry and one-of-a-kind family entertainment that thrills fans of all ages.

Share Your Ideas

We are eager to hear from our Girl Scouts! Each month we will ask a question that we would like to have Girl Scouts and their troops answer. We will draw one entry from each month’s responses and award a $10 troop credit toward a program event of your choice. Get Your Digital Cookie On!

It’s not too late to get started with Digital Cookie and reach your goals! Girls can set up their Digital Cookie site at any time and continue selling online through March 25. Girl Delivery is available through January 29, after which this feature will be turned off by council and customers will only see the option to ship or donate cookies. Please work closely with your Cookie Troop Coordinator and Troop Leader to be sure that all orders are received by the January 30 deadline for the troop’s Initial Order.

Important: Parents must approve any pending orders in Digital Cookie prior to the troop submitting their Initial Order, because these cookies will need to be added to the troop order.

Remember, girls continue selling after the January 30 deadline with Goal Getter Order Cards, at booth sales (which begin on February 15), and through Digital Cookie.

Camp Registration Opens February 1!

We are excited for another amazing year of camp adventures and fun! Camps fill up quickly, so be sure to register online beginning February 1. All activities are girl-led, meaning campers help choose their outdoor adventures and activities such as discovering nature, swimming and paddling, cooling off with water games, cooking over a campfire, boating and so much more! We’re gearing up for our Altogether Awesome 2018 Girl Scout Cookie Program which starts January 1. We can’t wait to see you at our fun-packed Cookie Rally in New Hampshire on January 13!

This year’s rally will be better than ever. You can:

      • explore interactive stations at your own pace and prepare for a great Cookie Sale;
      • older girls can attend special workshops designed just for them;
      • relax in the Digital Cookie lounge;
      • shop at our Mountain Top Shop for cookie merchandise and council apparel; and
      • girls will receive a free patch.

The fun doesn’t stop there! Girls can participate in special hockey opportunities like shooting a puck on the ice before attending a Manchester Monarchs hockey game with friends and family at 6 pm.

Unfortunately, despite promotion and outreach, we don’t have enough girls registered to run the Cookie Rally Vermont on January 6. We know you were looking forward to attending and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

We are so close to reaching our goal of raising $100,000 for our Unleashing Her Potential campaign by December 29, 2017 so we can earn $50,000 from a New Hampshire Girl Scout family. One council employee, Patty Canuel, is taking the lead and supporting our Unleashing Her Potential campaign by selling homemade scarves. Scarves can be purchased for $10 in our Bedford office lobby or online, and 50% of the proceeds will go toward the campaign.

Thank You – Camp Season Was a Huge Success!

What a summer! We had a record year at GSGWM’s Girl Scout camps in New Hampshire and Vermont, with a higher percentage of our membership attending than ever before. From paddling across the lake to taking part in awesome science experiments, girls made lots of new friends, learned all about the outdoors, and became leaders by actively exploring their world. G.I.R.L. 2017 – Let’s Take Action

On October 6, nearly 10,000 Girl Scouts will converge in Columbus, Ohio for our national G.I.R.L. 2017 convention. This high-energy event will celebrate what makes each G.I.R.L. special and unique. Our council will be represented by delegates ready to share our voice and bring back important information for us all. Attendees will be participating in real-time, hands-on service projects and they need your help. They will be assembling welcome packets for the Columbus YWCA Family Center, an emergency shelter. If you have travel-sized items of the following, please drop them off at our offices in Bedford and Williston before September 22.

Highest Award Deadline Reminder

Girls who have finished 5th, 8th, and 12th grade must complete their Highest Awards projects and submit their Final Reports by September 30. Paperwork may be submitted to the GSGWM Bedford office in person, by mail, or by email. Final report paperwork may be found on our website.

After the cruise, walk along the trails and enjoy the live animal exhibits!

New Journeys and Badges Are Here

Big news! GSUSA announced new Girl Scout program offerings for STEM and Outdoors this week. Each is topic-specific, aligned to the five program outcomes, and can be used as a prerequisite to the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards. Girl Scouts will be able to design robots and racecars, go on environmentally conscious camping trips, create algorithms, collect data in the great outdoors, try their hand at engineering, and so much more. Look for these new Journeys and badges as they roll out this summer at Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains. Songs and S’mores for a Good Cause

Enjoy some singing and s’mores for a good cause on August 15 and September 24 at Camp Kettleford in Bedford, New Hampshire. The Torchbearers, a GSGWM alumnae group, will be hosting two Bring-A-Friend Sing-Along and Campfire events to help raise funds to repair a chimney at Camp Farnsworth in Thetford, Vermont. Adults and girls are welcome, but please note, adults must accompany girls to this event.

Invite your favorite tall (adult female) for a weekend of fun and adventure for Tall & Small Special Agent Academy! Vermont Lake Monsters Girl Scout Night – August 19, Burlington, VT
Girls and family can attend a Vermont Lake Monsters Game. Girls and siblings receive a grandstand ticket to the game, fully catered BBQ dinner, youth bracelet to Party City Kid’s Fun Zone, and a patch. Plus, run the bases post-game and take pictures in front of the video board!

Family Power – September 1-4, Camp Farnsworth
Girl Scouts, bring your family and show them why camp life is the best life for a weekend full of camp fun. Attendees will be able to enjoy camp activities, including archery, boating, swimming, and more. There will also be special family activities, including stargazing, a “polar swim,” silly family competitions, and a family campfire with S’more Lab. Families may share a cabin or tent unit. Food, activities, and patch are included in the fee.

In addition, beginning in July, Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and Cadette badge production will take place in the United States. The fabric, thread, iron-on backing, and packaging are all produced in America. The USA-made product will be available to start shipping in July 2017.

In order to offer the USA-made product, there will be an increase to the pricing structure. The new retail price on Daisy, Brownie, Junior, and Cadette badges will be $3.00, effective July 1, 2017.

The Membership of a Lifetime

Graduation season is the perfect time to give the gift of Girl Scouting! Lifetime members are a cherished part of the Girl Scout family.

Ready to join? Start with completing the Lifetime Membership Form. Graduating high school seniors (Ambassador Girl Scouts) who register by September 1, 2017 are eligible for special pricing. Cookie Dough may be used toward lifetime membership dues.

Are you chaperoning your girl’s camporee, or volunteering at other upcoming summer troop activities? Please remember that ALL Girl Scout volunteers MUST register as a member and undergo a background check. This process can take up to 3 weeks.

Extended Hours at The Mountain Top Shop

As summer approaches, the days are getting longer. And good news – so are the hours to The Mountain Top Shop! We’re extending our hours and will be open until 6:30 pm on May 25 and June 1 at our Bedford and Williston locations.

A reminder: Our stores and offices will be closed on Monday, May 29 in observation of Memorial Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, May 30.

Council Take Action Project Reminder

Girls have one more month to lead Take Action for Healthy Living Projects focused on helping their communities be healthier. Projects of all sizes are encouraged. Girls can apply for funding for their projects through a Take Action Mini Grant from the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation and will receive a special girl-designed patch.

A Sweet Ending to Cookie Season

Congratulations on another successful Girl Scout Cookie Season. Our council sold over 1.4 million packages of cookies! The council’s Virtual Gift of Caring was 17,060 packages of cookies, in addition to the many more cases contributed by individual troops through Troop Gift of Caring. Way to take the lead, Girl Scouts! Cookie Dough will be issued in mid-May, and final rewards should be distributed by your troop leaders within the next few weeks.

Can’t wait for summer? Join us at Camp Farnsworth Helping Hands on April 29 from 9 am to 4 pm. Experience a fun-filled day outdoors as you help us prepare camp for the upcoming season. There is no registration fee, but registration is required. A light breakfast, lunch, and snack will be provided, with the opportunity to stay overnight on Saturday. Any troop that brings five or more adults will receive a voucher for $50 toward the rental of a GSGWM property. Call 888-474-8686 to register.

At Girl Scouts, we care about your experience, good or bad, and we want to hear from you!

During the month of April, Girl Scouts of the USA is conducting a national survey of girls, parents, and troop volunteers called Girl Scout Voices Count to find out what’s working, and what’s not, in Girl Scouts. We will use your feedback to improve our services and programs. Complete the survey for a chance to win a $50 gift card from the Girl Scout Research Institute! The survey closes April 30, so keep an eye out for emails coming from GSUSA and be sure to check your spam folders (or promotions tab if you have Gmail).

Tech Adventure with Comcast Cares – April 19 from 4 to 8 pm
Juniors and older girls can join us at the Hudson Recreation Center in Hudson, NH. Create a computer using a Raspberry Pi kit and then use it to do cool things like make burping jelly beans. This event is free with support from Comcast Cares. Hosted by Girl Scout Troop 12360. Register by April 17.

Vermont Aviation – April 28 from 10 am to 2 pm
Juniors – Ambassadors can visit the Vermont airport of their choice, and learn how planes fly and airports operate. Participating airports include Barre/Montpelier, Bennington, Highgate, Lyndonville, Middlebury, Morrisville, Newport, Post Mills, Rutland, and Warren. Register by April 16.

Take Action for Healthy Living with Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains

Make the world a healthier place by leading a project focused on healthy living and earn a limited edition patch designed by a GSGWM Girl Scout. You decide the healthy living issue and the size of the project.

Troops may apply for funding for their projects through our Take Action Mini Grant – made possible through generous funding from the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation. Projects may occur any time between April 1 – June 30, and can be part of a Journey Take Action Project, or a Silver or Gold Award Project.

Get moving with our Virtual Running Club. From beginners to experts, girls and adults can participate in this fun online club starting March 20. Girl Scouts on the Silver Screen

Are you a Junior Girl Scout who’s a serious movie buff? You won’t want to miss “From Black and White to Today” on April 29 at Red River Theatres in Concord, NH. Discover how movies have changed as you watch “The Golden Eaglet,” a Girl Scouts film from 1918, then learn how a modern-day movie theater operates. Registration is $12 if completed by April 8.

Seeking New Members

The Gold Award Support Committee is seeking new members to mentor girls working toward earning their Gold Award. The Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn, and is designed to address the root cause of an issue and educate and inspire others to take action. Girls lead others as they complete their project – requiring a suggested minimum of 80 hours of work. Girls must complete a project plan proposal, produce a minimum of 80 hours of work, and submit a final report to the Gold Award Support Committee for approval.

New Gold Award Support Committee volunteer members are needed to:

  • Support and encourage girls in attaining desired goals.
  • Review girls’ Gold Award Project Proposals and Final Reports and provide feedback.
  • Mentor assigned girls throughout the project.
  • Communicate with Girl Scout members, GSWM staff, and Gold Award Support Committee members.
